Time to review London's biodiversity strategy

The London Assembly Environment Committee has called on the Mayor to update biodiversity strategy

Over 800 organisations and members of the public responded to a survey examining progress in delivering London's biodiversity strategy. Over half the responses said the mayor and London Boroughs need to do more to protect and enhance London's green spaces and buidiversity habitats.

Chaired by Murad Qureshi AM, the committee sent a letter to the Boris Johnson calling for an update on London's 2002 biodiversity strategy. They picked up on a number of CPRE London's recommendations, including for:

  • Greater investment in connecting up the All London Green Grid
  • Reviewing progress on local Biodiversity Action Plans, 'Environment Stewardship' agreements and links to Local Plans
  • Examining growing development pressures on land and planning system
  • Maximising the benefits from Green Infrastructure and ecosystem services
  • Supporting volunteer and educational organisations
