According to three independent indices (Mercer, EUI and Monocle) London doesn't even come into the top ten of liveable city rankings globally. CPRE London would like London to be even more ambitious and work towards making our capital one of the most liveable cities in the world. This means addressing key challenges, such as:
• Sustainable transport: commitments to reduce air pollution and car dependency, promote public transport, pedestrian and cycling enhancements;
• Housing and social infrastructure: promote the supply of affordable, inclusive and good quality homes and community infrastructure;
• Green spaces: investing in enhanced landscape and green infrastructure quality, multiple functions and connectivity;
• Health and wellbeing: promoting quality of life and enhancing community assets.
In our response we particularly highlight two key issues which need to be strengthened in the FALP:
- Providing sufficient good quality and affordable houses to meet London's housing needs not just market demand
- Planning positively for London's green lungs

CPRE London's Campaign for a Liveable London has been examining the issue of neighbourhood liveability. We have consulted with built environment and community practitioners, policy makers, as well as reviewed a number of case studies across the capital. Our response to the Further Alternations on the London Plan (FALP) is based on the emerging findings of that research.
