Catherine Maguire of CPRE London said:
“The sites include recreation grounds, woodlands, Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation, elements of Green Chains, a tennis and country club and parts of the Wandle Valley Regional Park. We also raise concerns about 3 allotments sites, a sports fields and a recreation ground which may also come under threat from development if allocated in the final Local Plan.
This brings the number of protected Green Belt and Met Open Land sites under threat in London up to 69. On 9 March we launched our report [1] on the real story of what’s happening to protected land in London. At that time we had identified 51 sites under threat. We predicted the number would increase swiftly but the speed at which we are now unearthing new threats is really shocking.”
She continued: “We are hugely concerned about the sheer number of protected sites being identified in Local Plan Consultations."
The London Borough of Sutton’s Draft Local Plan is under consultation until 8 April 2016 - click here to go to the consultation page.
