Local elections in May - help make parks more beautiful and tranquil

Monday, 16 April 2018 10:03

Our manifesto for the upcoming local elections highlights the need to improve parks and public spaces, protect Green Belt and Open Land, and build genuinely affordable housing on existing developed land

Campaigners at CPRE London [1] today publish their manifesto [2] for the London Borough elections on 3 May. Alice Roberts of CPRE London said: “The manifesto sets out what we want to hear from candidates and we have been contacting local political groups to hear what they think. We’ve had an amazingly positive response, showing they know how much Londoners love their parks and open spaces!”

CPRE London wants candidates to commit to:
• safeguarding existing green space, Green Belt or Metropolitan Open Land
• making our streets and public open spaces safer and more pleasant with reduced traffic
• providing genuinely affordable housing on existing developed land
PRIORITISING PARKS
• making it a priority to secure well-maintained and well-used parks
• making our parks more beautiful and tranquil with less noise and air pollution
AND
• helping make London a National Park City.

Alice continued “We also want to hear from Londoners about their own priorities so we’ve set up a short survey asking people to choose the top three things they want their borough to do on environment issues. We’re asking people to take one minute to have their say and we’ll be publishing the results in a couple of weeks and contacting candidates in all the boroughs with the results.”
