Our report May 2017: The Strongest Protection – one year on gives analysis and details of threats to London’s protected Green Belt and Metropolitan Open Land.

The London Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) welcomed Neil Sinden as its new Director from 1 April 2017. For the past 18 months Neil has been working as a consultant based in the Wyre Forest about 20 miles west of Birmingham.  Previously he was Policy and Campaigns Director at CPRE National Office for many years. He has lived in east London for over 25 years where he was a committee member of the Friends of Mile End Park.

Over 75 campaigners, Councillors, Members of Parliament and the Lords, including Bob Blackman MP, Baroness Jenny Jones and Lord Rogers of Riverside, withstood the Indian summer heat to hear why the London Green Belt is as vital now as it ever was but is facing its greatest threat from proposals to build over 123,000 homes. 

The London Green Belt Council and CPRE London's joint report “‘Safe Under Us?’ An investigation into widespread threats from housebuilding in the London Metropolitan Green Belt” highlights how Government housing and planning policies have led to an unprecedented scale of threat to London’s Green Belt.

The London Great Belt Partnership is a partnership of eight CPRE branches in and around London and the London Green Belt Council. Collectively we represent well over 50,000 people and have joined forces to highlight and challenge the significant threats to London’s Green Belt.
